Henry

The last place I expected to be the morning after knotting Logan for the first time was in the hospital, waiting for him to come out of emergency surgery. Guilt flowed through me, knowing this was all my fault. I shouldn’t have knotted, not this close to his due date.

Technically, he was still several weeks away from his due date, but I’d heard the actual window of risk wasn’t very big. And apparently, my greed and selfishness put Logan in a position that endangered his life and the life of the baby he was carrying.

Fuck! I gripped handfuls of hair with both fists as I sat in the waiting area attached to the maternity ward. What if he’s not okay?

A man sat down in the chair across from me, looking almost as devastated as I felt. “He’ll be okay. He has to be.”

I looked up, making sure I didn’t miss a second person entering the area. Nope. It was just me and him. I held his gaze, trying to figure out what he was talking about.

He sucked in a deep breath then clasped his hands together. “Logan, he’s gonna be okay. He and the baby. I can feel it.” He pressed one fist to his heart and held it there. “Right in here.”

“And you are?” He didn’t look like Logan so I didn’t think he was his brother, but I wasn’t sure.

“Edward.” He leaned forward far enough to shake my hand. “Lance’s husband.”

I nodded in understanding, finally catching up to the conversation. “I’m Henry. Nice to meet you.”

He leaned back into the hard plastic seat, his leg bouncing at a furious pace. “I know. He told us about you.”

“He did?” It wasn’t the right time to smile, but I couldn’t keep my lips from curling up at the corners. Logan had been talking about me with his brother and brother-in-law. “I hope he said good stuff.”

Edward scoffed. “Yeah, all good.”

A nurse walked in a moment later, stopping any further conversation. “Mr. Henley?”

Edward stood up and rushed to her side. “That’s me.”

She pulled her face mask down and smiled. “Your son and husband are ready to see you now.”

“My son?” Tears coated his eyes and his voice became raspy. “He’s okay?”

The nurse nodded and started to walk down the hall with Edward at her side. “He’s great. Small, but doing very well considering he came early.”

I followed after them, desperate for an update on Logan. “What about the dad? The omega. The one who delivered. Is he okay?”

She stopped short and looked between me and Edward.

Edward nodded as if indicating it was okay for her to speak to me about a patient’s status.

“Birth dad is doing well. Emergency cesareans are never easy, but he’ll be good as new after some rest and relaxation.”

Thank fuck!

We arrived at the door to the recovery room, and the nurse held up her hand to stop me from following in after Edward. “I’m sorry, sir, but we can only allow two visitors at a time right now.
